Do you have any tips on visiting the WDW parks w/ a 21 mth old in the summer heat? Not sure if it's the best idea since the weather is usually in the mid to high 90's in late July however we will be in town & wanted to advantage of our time in Orlando

    Hi Alice!

As a Florida resident, I understand your dilemma.  It can get quite hot in the summer.  I took my two children (almost 1 and almost 4) to the Magic Kingdom last week and it was mighty humid.  The best tips I have are to take advantage of indoor attractions.  There are tons to choose from that will get you out of the sun and into the air conditioning to cool off for a bit before heading back outside.  We particularly enjoyed the Dumbo attraction which has a line queue INSIDE with a play area for the kids.  You are given a pager and there is a special area right in the middle for children under 2.  This is a great way to cool off indoors and still let your little one get some energy out by walking around and playing.  Once your pager goes off, it's your turn to ride the ride!

Keep hydrated!  You can get complimentary cups of ice water at any location that has fountain soda.  If you don't mind water from the tap, then drink as much as you can.  If water isn't your thing, bring some packets of flavoring like Crystal Light or Mio to add flavor to the water.  This is a great way to get my kids to keep drinking when it's hot outside.

Apply sunscreen every few hours.  Most of the areas are shaded, but if you find yourself in the direct sun for any length of time, you will need the sunscreen.  A had and sunglasses is also a good idea for children.

Take a break and get a treat.  We love the fruit bars that are sold at every ice cream cart.  My son always gets the pineapple bar and I get the strawberry bar.  Together with a cup of ice water, this is a nice "cool off" treat.

    Have a magical day!
