tips for magic kingdom during peak crowd levels

Hello Barbara! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

I know all about visiting Magic Kingdom Park during peak crowd levels! My family and I visit Walt Disney World every year over Christmas day, and let me tell you it is busy. Over the years, my family and I have come up with a great strategy for enjoying one of the busiest days of the year.

Probably the best piece of advice I can give you is to set your alarm and get to Magic Kingdom Park early! You will be amazed at how much you can cross off of your must-do list if you arrive 45 minutes prior to the park opening. If you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, even better. Try planning to go to Magic Kingdom Park when morning Extra Magic Hours are offered. You'll be able to bounce from attraction to attraction for the first hour to hour and a half with little to no wait time. Secondly, I always suggest making your FastPass+ selections for the late morning and afternoon. This is the time the parks are going to be at their very busiest. I find making your FastPass+ selections for around lunchtime is a great way to avoid long lines. After you use your initial 3 FastPass+ selections don't forget that you can select another to use on the rolling FastPass+ system. That just means you select one, use it and then you are eligible to select one again. As an alternative to grabbing more FastPass+ selections right away, you could head back to your Walt Disney World Resort Hotel for an afternoon swim. This is actually what I do on Christmas Day. It's a great reprieve from the crowds and the Florida heat. After swimming, I suggest having a nice sit down dinner somewhere. And once your belly is full, you can then head back to Magic Kingdom Park for more attractions and the firework show! If you'd like to stay in the park all day, try making a sit down lunch or dinner reservation somewhere. This will give you a break from all of the walking and crowds and I promise will help you feel rejuvenated. Also, try staying in Magic Kingdom Park after the fireworks if the park is open late. Most people will be heading out and this is a great time to experience some of those attractions that might have had a long wait time during the day.

I help this helps you plan your day a little bit better. If you have any other questions please feel free to come back and ask me. Enjoy your day!

Meet the Panelist: Jackie, North Carolina

I love all things Walt Disney World.  In fact, since becoming Annual Passholders, my family of 3 is always hopping in the car for a quick trip to visit with Mickey Mouse!  I've been known to make the 8 hour each way drive to Walt Disney World (in one day!) to indulge in a Mickey Waffle or enjoy a sunny day at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park.  I may have a small family, but we are always up for some BIG fun at the Walt Disney World Resort.   Learn More About Jackie
