How much time is recommended to allow for boarding? My family is staying on-property at Disney before boarding Wish. We are trying to decide whether to attempt a morning park visit, or skip it an go direct to port after breakfast.

    Hi, Darrielle!

A vacation that combines both Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line is certainly a vacation with twice the fun! Leaving Walt Disney World property is much more fun knowing you are heading on a cruise with Captain Mickey and his crew!

While I am all about squeezing in every minute of Theme Park fun during my Walt Disney World vacation, I think you will be much more relaxed if you grab a leisurely breakfast then head out to Port Canaveral for your cruise. I would not want you to be stressed about any transportation issues, traffic, or any other unforeseen events. You are on vacation so keep things as easy as possible.

If you are planning on driving to Port Canaveral from Orlando, count on a drive of about an hour. Once you arrive at the port, you will be directed to the luggage drop-off area to leave your bags that will be delivered to your stateroom. Keep your day bag with swimsuits, phone chargers, any valuables, medications, and your passports. You will then park your car, walk to the nearby cruise terminal, check-in, then board the ship when your boarding group is called. Count on the entire boarding process to take about an hour (maybe a bit longer if you arrive prior to your Port Arrival Time).

Another option to get to the port (and for guests who do not have a car) would be to book Disney Transportation. You may book this by calling Disney Cruise Line directly and they will arrange for a motorcoach transfer from your Disney Resort Hotel to the port (return service to the Orlando Airport also available). You will receive your pick-up time and then it will be off to the port for your magical cruise!

As a parent, I am always thinking of the practical side of vacations, and one of those things is having enough clean clothes! To avoid overpacking, you may choose to use the Self-Service Laundry that is available on the Disney Wish on Deck 8. Toss in a load when you board and have a whole batch of clean clothes for your entire crew! After several days in the parks, you may find a fresh batch of laundry will be just what you need for your cruise.

I hope you have a wonderful vacation as you enjoy Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line! Bon Voyage!
