Ahoy there, Susan!
Welcome aboard planDisney! I love that you are looking to take full advantage of your time while you’re close to Port Canaveral and planning the perfect embarkation day for you and your crew. Trying to squeeze in one more adventure before boarding always reminds me of when Woody says, “Reach for the sky!” because on embarkation day, it really does feel like you’re launching into something big.
Once your
Online Check-In window opens, which is 30 days prior to sailing for first-time Disney cruisers, you will be able to select your
Port Arrival Time that works best for your vacation. I know many Guests like to choose the earliest available time so they can get onboard and start exploring right away, but you can absolutely choose a later time if you’d like to make a morning detour to explore nearby attractions before heading to the terminal. That flexibility can be really helpful when you’re trying to squeeze in just one more memory before stepping onboard.
The timing is always subject to change, but let’s break down what the schedule usually looks like to give you a better idea of what to expect. Typically, the first Guests are allowed to enter the cruise terminal and check in around 10:45 AM. These usually include Guests sailing Concierge,
Pearl Castaway Club Members, and those taking
Disney ground transfers. Port Arrival Times are scheduled in 15-minute blocks, and Guests with higher Castaway Club status will get first pick of the earlier times. Again, the exact timing can vary a little, but boarding of the ship usually begins around 11:30 AM, when the excitement really starts to build and you feel like you’re stepping into your own adventure story.
As a first-time cruiser, I would estimate that the earliest Port Arrival Time available to you will likely be somewhere around 12:30 to 12:45 PM, though that can vary depending on your sailing. The nice part is that you can absolutely select a later Port Arrival Time that fits your plans if you decide to explore in the morning. Also, it’s good to remember that you can arrive after your assigned Port Arrival Time if your morning plans take a little longer than expected. You just don’t want to arrive too early, or you may be asked to wait until your assigned window before entering the terminal.
My crew and I sailed on
the Disney Wish recently, and one thing I always recommend is checking the local launch schedule for the day you embark. The stars happened to align for our sailing, and we were able to watch a launch right after the Sail Away Party. I don’t know of a better view than that. Watching a rocket launch from the deck of a Disney ship felt like one of those epic moments straight out of Lightyear, where adventure quite literally takes off right in front of you.
I hope this helps you
map out your embarkation day and decide whether a quick morning adventure fits into your plans. With a little careful timing and the right Port Arrival Time, you may be able to enjoy both an exciting morning and a magical afternoon onboard.
Sea ya real soon as springtime magic carries us from one adventure to the next,
Dustin
