1st time at disney. We purchased the deluxe meal plan going last week in may. Do we need to make reservations, what happens if just show up? How do I make resev. for breakfast w/character? Can you use deluxe and still eat at a fast place?

    Hi Elaine,

The deluxe dining plan is a wonderful way to experience some of Disney's best dining options.  In order to get the most out of your plan, I absolutely recommend making advanced dining reservations for whatever table service (sit down) restaurants you are most interested in as soon as possible.  You can make reservations by calling (407) WDW-DINE (939-3463).  You can make reservations for any table service restaurant on the meal plan by calling this number, including the character meals.  Some of our favorite character breakfasts include Chef Mickey's (at the Contemporary), Cape May Buffet (at the Beach Club), Ohana Breakfast (at the Polynesian) and Donald's Safari Breakfast (at Tusker House at Animal Kingdom).  Character meals are also available at various locations for lunch and dinner.  As you might guess, character meals are very popular, and a reservation is key to ensuring that you secure the time and location you are most interested in.

Since you have so many meal credits, I would also suggest trying some of Disney's signature restaurants (these are the fine dining establishments).  Some wonderful choices include California Grille, Jiko and Flying Fish Cafe.

Disney restaurants will accept "walk ups" when there is availability, however, when the parks are crowded, wait times can be very long, and some times, are not even possible due to the large number of reservations.  I know it seems like a lot of work to "plot out" where you want to eat and when, but it will be worth it when you arrive.

Finally, you can absolutely use your meal credits at "quick service" (Disney's lingo for counter service) restaurants.  You do not need to make reservations at these locations.

Have a wonderful trip, and Bon Appetit!
