1st time cruiser setting sail in 2 weeks! Just read that 20% of the time in Feb. Castaway Cay is missed due to weather. Wondering about booking excursions there - need to book ahead? If so, what happens if we have the misfortune of being unable to dock?

    Hi Nicole!

Welcome to the Moms Panel, and the wonderful world of cruising!  We missed our stop in Castaway Cay on our first cruise back in 1999, but have been fortunate enough to enjoy our visit there every voyage since.  I think it is actually a rare occurrence unlike what may be "floating" around out there on internet fan sites for percentages.

Personally, I opt to wait to book my excursions unless there is a very specific event I don't want to miss.  When cruising at a non-peak time (which you are), it will be relatively easy to find some sort of excursion or activity to book once on board.  I like being able to look at the forecast before making my decisions.

If the excursions are canceled by the cruise line due to inclement weather, you will be refunded 100 percent.  Should you choose to cancel simply because the weather isn't ideal or your plans change you will not be granted a refund.

If it were me, I would wait unless you see a "must do" excursion with limited booking availability.
