Hi Stephanie, Chef Mickey's is a great choice for dinner! The make-your-own-sundaes are delicious :)
We always like to fit in a ride on the monorail during our vacations, and Chef Mickey's offers a great opportunity to do this. If you want to ride the monorail, then I would plan to be heading out of the Magic Kingdom and making your way towards the monorail station by 4:40 or so. This should allow plenty of time in case there is a wait for the next monorail, or a bit of a line. You are supposed to check in 10 minutes ahead of your scheduled Advanced Dining Reservation. If there is time to spare, you can always explore the wonderful gift shops located near Chef Mickey's. In addition, the restaurant takes your photo before they seat you, so you could do that while you are waiting as well.
Another option is to walk to the Contemporary from the Magic Kingdom. It is approximately 15 minutes or less from the MK front gate to the Resort. Again, be sure to leave enough time to arrive 10 minutes early.
Hope this helps and enjoy your vacation!
Visit Walt Disney World Resort to explore the magic.
