If we got tickets to Disneyland and we wanted to upgrade the tickets to magic key passes when they are available, Can we still enter Disneyland even though it's not available on the key pass for the day?

A warm welcome from all of us at planDisney to you, Katelyn. We're so glad you stopped by to share this question with us. I'm so glad to hear that you are interested in becoming a Magic Key holder and I'm thrilled to help you prepare.

The day we've all been waiting for is almost here. For the first time in forever, Magic Key sales will reopen on November 6th! There are a couple of ways that you can upgrade a theme park ticket. If you'd like to upgrade your wholly unused ticket, you can visit a ticket booth in person once sales open to make your upgrade. The value of your unused theme park ticket can be applied towards the purchase of a Magic Key pass as long as the cost of the pass is equal to or greater than the price paid for the original ticket. If you upgrade your pass before your visit date, your existing theme park reservation will not transfer over to your new Magic Key pass and you will have to make a new theme park reservation.

Another option for upgrading your theme park ticket is to upgrade by midnight on the day of your visit (or on the last day of your visit for multi-day tickets) in the Disneyland app. This option allows you to use your existing ticket and theme park reservation before upgrading to a Magic Key pass. The risk with this option is that the Magic Key pass you are interested in purchasing may no longer be available by the time you visit and are ready to upgrade or Magic Key sales could be paused again.

If you're really keen on getting your Magic Key pass, the safest option is probably to upgrade your ticket before your visit. While theme park reservations might not be available for the day you'd like to visit at the time of your upgrade, you can always check back to see if any reservations open up. Guests' plans often change and I've had luck finding last-minute theme park reservations on many occasions.

Katelyn, I hope this helps and gives you some options to think about before sales open next week. Take a look at the Magic Key Buying Guide to help prepare. I'll be sending all of the pixie dust your way in the hopes that everything works out in your favor with whatever decision you make. Here's to unlocking a year of magic at the Happiest Place on Earth!
