Bright suns, Melissa! Welcome to planDisney!
How exciting is it that you'll be at Walt Disney World in just a few days?! I'll be honest, as a mom of two young boys who don't know much about a galaxy far, far away yet, I spend most of my time in Toy Story Land at
Disney's Hollywood Studios. But I am SO ready to hyperspace jump to Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge to visit the planet of Batuu to help you on your mission, Melissa! As Han Solo said, "Never tell me the odds!"
Most importantly, you need a plan for entering Disney's Hollywood Studios in order to build a custom lightsaber at
Savi's Workshop--Handbuilt Lightsabers. You can either 1) make a Disney's Hollywood Studios park reservation for your party using the
Disney Park Reservation System or 2) if you have a
Park Hopper Option, park hop to Disney's Hollywood Studios after 2 p.m.
Savi's Workshop is a very popular 20- 30-minute experience that fills up very quickly; however, keep checking and refreshing in the My Disney Experience App daily. You may find openings! (Remember, if you park hop to Disney's Hollywood Studios, you'll want your reservation to be after 2 p.m. But really, if you find any reservation, grab it.)
Another option at Disney's Hollywood Studios is to build a lightsaber at Tatooine Traders near Star Tours-The Adventures Continue attraction (outside of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge). This will not be a fully immersive experience like at Savi's Workshop; however, it will still give your son the chance to live out his Star Wars dreams! Your Padawan can choose a lightsaber blade, hilt, and end cap here.
If you unfortunately can't get theme park and Savi's Workshop reservations or have ruled out Tatooine Traders, there is indeed one "Last Hope." Head to
Disney Springs to the Star Wars Trading Post store to build a lightsaber similar to that your son would make at Tatooine Traders. As I aforementioned, it won't be as immersive or have a prop-worthy lightsaber like Savi's Workshop, but it will still give him a special memory and souvenir.
I hope this answer helps, and may the Force will be with you. If you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to
