If there are thunderstorms forecasted for the day, do the waterparks- Typhoon Lagoon, and Blizzard Beach close down? How do we find out what the status of the park operations are when we're there?

We just returned from a trip in which we visited only the water parks, Tara.  As is typical for summer months, thunderstorms were forecasted for each day of our stay.  Fortunately, in actuality, we only experienced rain on two of our days.  The water parks were operational every day, though, despite the weather forecast.  I can tell you that rain alone will not cause the powers that be to shut down a water park.  In the case of nearby lightning, they will get every guest out of the water and temporarily shut down the attractions until the storm passes.  In some cases, they will actually be forced to call for a closure.  In those instances, an announcement will be made over the loud speaker and guests will be directed to the park exits.  To find out whether the water parks are open during your stay, simply inquire at your resort lobby or visit Guest Services if you are in a theme park.  Enjoy your trip!
