Hi Jamie!
Welcome to planDisney! I am so excited to SEA that you have an upcoming Disney cruise planned. Your crew must be so excited! I know mine would be.
I am assuming by your question that you already have a stateroom reservation for accommodations that sleep up to five Guests. That means a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom or a Deluxe Family Oceanview Stateroom with a Verandah. The key word that needs to be in there is “Family."
The Deluxe Family Oceanview staterooms with Verandah are the most spacious staterooms on the ship (short of Concierge level). This is my preferred
category of stateroom as it works best when my girlfriends and I cruise together. Although we had 4 adults in our stateroom, the only difference is that we passed on using the dropdown bunk bed that the stateroom host pulls down in the evenings. And traditionally, that is exactly where my kids love to sleep! The sofa converts to a bed and a trundle bed can be lowered from the wall. Instantly, there‘s enough space for 5 Guests.
However, just because there’s room for 5 Guests doesn’t mean that will work for 3 adults, a teen, and a preschooler. It’s totally doable, but it may prove to be very close quarters, especially when you add in all the luggage and everyone’s stuff. I think it also depends on how long your cruise will be. I can’t imagine trying to do that for a 7-night or longer voyage, but for 3 or 4-night itineraries, that might just work. Ultimately, you all will need to decide if that’s a little too close for comfort or not.
As my kids have grown into teenagers, I’ve found the stateroom is feeling much smaller than it used to feel! For comparison purposes, you should also price two staterooms because in certain circumstances, that combination could actually cost less than a single, higher category stateroom. Contact a
Disney Cruise Line Vacation Planning Specialist or do a query on the
Disney Cruise Line website to see the difference in cost.
Jamie, the Fab 5 (Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy, and Pluto) cannot wait to welcome your party of 5 onboard when you sail. No matter what you decide on your stateroom, I'm sending you lots of pixie dust that you will have many amazing adventures at sea.
Happy Sailing!
