Hi Ashton,
Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I love hearing the word savings and Disney in the same sentence!
Starting a special savings account for trips to the
Walt Disney World Resort is an excellent idea. Our family saves in multiple ways. We have a traditional savings account at a credit union and we have intentionally not requested a debit card for that account. We literally have to go to the bank to withdraw the money so it helps us leave the money in the account until we need it.
Our girls also keep a savings jar at home. We typically take a large jar and decorate it. For our first trip with the girls, we had them trace their hands on construction paper and they each decorated the hand. We then taped their hands to the jar and allowed them to put all kinds of other stickers on it. We also decorated a sign that said something like "Our Disney Vacation" and taped that to the jar. Whenever they got extra change, they put it in the jar.
That same year, one of our girls decided that she wanted to earn additional money to save. She started selling her artwork to various family members. After we decided on reasonable prices, she was in business. To her delight, she had steady customers in her grandparents. We allowed the girls to use the money they saved for souvenirs.
Savings comes in other ways as well. We had a credit card that offered cash back. We would get our cash back once or twice a year and add that to our vacations savings. We also often receive gift cards for special occasions. We then use those on our trips to the Walt Disney World Resort! When we stop to get coffee or a meal, it makes me happy to pull out a gift card. On top of that, I find restaurant coupons and, if we drive, I use those coupons along the way.
Ashton, I trust you will save, save, save!
Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
Donyell
