I thought it would be convenient to have a car since we arrive the day before our Disney Magic Cruise departure. My ? is how convenient is it to turn in the rental near the port? Are there specific car rental places near by?

    Hi, Patricia!

Having a rental car is helpful and cost efficient depending on the size of your traveling party and/or your mobility issues. When my kids were younger and we had carseats and strollers, a rental car came in handy to get us around the Orlando/Port Canaveral area and served as storage for all of the inevitable "stuff" that comes with little ones. Plus, we could go at our own pace with the flexibility of choosing where and when to go.  Disney Cruise Line ground transportation is super convenient, but it's cost prohibitive for us as a family of six. We actually find that a private car service is the most efficient and convenient way for us to get back and forth from the airport or the Walt Disney World (WDW) Resort to Port Canaveral.

Where are you planning to stay the night before your cruise? If you're staying at WDW, consider taking Disney's Magical Express (DME) which is complimentary to your resort hotel. Then, you can contact a car rental company which have offices in the Orlando area as well as drop-off points near the port. Some will even bring your rental car to the resort and shuttle you to the port after drop off. Of course, you'll need to consider how you'll get back to the airport or resort after your cruise, too.

I personally like to stay at WDW the day before a Disney Cruise leaving from Port Canaveral and take advantage of DME. Then, I contact a private car service to pick us up (after a character breakfast at our resort) around 9:30-10 a.m. They get us there quickly and comfortably and help us with the luggage when we arrive curbside. Upon our return, we either have the driver take us straight to the airport or drop us off for one last dose of Disney.

Hopefully, that gives you an idea of how to best plan for your family. Let me know if you have other questions for me. Have a wonderful day and a magical vacation. Bon voyage!
