We were thinking of visiting the first weekend in Oct. My 7-year-old is off school that Fri., Mon., and Tues. Are other schools across the country off during this time? Is it a busy time? If so, I can take her out of school and go later in the month.

Green lights says go! I think that would be a wonderful time to visit Walt Disney World.

Our school here in Pennsylvania only gives off Monday for the Columbus Day holiday (I checked a few other nearby schools and they only have Monday off as well). In NY, my god-daughter has the Friday and Monday of this weekend off of school.

I would definitely take advantage of your child’s extra days of vacation.  While Saturday and Monday will be busier, it will not be peak crowd levels as October is a great time to visit overall. Epcot will draw the largest crowds over the weekend due to the Food and Wine Festival.

Other times in October might be a little less busy but not considerably. We take our son out of school to visit in the off-season too but try to attach it to less busy holidays (Veterans, MLK, etc).  Enjoy!
