We are thinking about trying the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage, but our four year old is bothered by loud noises and although he loves Peter Pan, I worry that he might be afraid of Captain Hook. Should we give the voyage a try or wait a few more years?

Hi Erin!  Although I do love the Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage I am a firm believer not to push the young ones too quickly into things that they might not enjoy. I begged as a child to ride a roller coaster at an amusement park and it was horrible and to this day I am not a fan of anything similar.

I took my grandson to the Pirates League when he had just turned three and it was a bit early for him. He did not understand what they were saying to him or even doing to him and all he kept saying was that he wanted to be a nice pirate. When they went to put his tattoo on his hand he about freaked thinking it was real.

My advice is to perhaps book a regular Fireworks cruise boat for your family for this year and with each visit urge him to try new things that might make him feel at ease. The Pirates voyage can be loud and the pirates, although very nice, can be a little intimidating to one who doesn't understand.  If you do feel like trying it I suggest you sit in the back of the boat as you will be away from the pirate as he stands in the front. Only you know your child best to feel if this would be the right thing to try for this trip. There are many other great things so don't feel like you will be missing out if you don't. Even perhaps a visit to the Pirates League for a makeover is a good way to start him on his pirate adventures?  I am sure the whole family will have fun no matter what you decide.
