We are thinking about going thru a travel agent but I've never worked with one before so I'm sure how it works. How far in advance are you able to start booking? Do they set you up with a payment plan? How much is required up front?

    Hi Michelle,

Working with a Disney-savvy travel agent can have significant advantages.  As a big-time Walt Disney World enthusiast, I always used to make my own reservations and travel plans.  Then I heard some of my colleagues on the Moms Panel comment how their travel agents saved them significant money on their Disney vacation packages.  I decided to give working with a travel agent a try.  My agent is always up-to-date on the latest Disney promotional offers.  Even after I've booked a vacation package, she contacts me when better promotions are released.  Sometimes she catches offers that I may have missed.  Currently, agents can book room-only reservations 499 days in advance.  Vacation packages can be booked online through December 31, 2012.

You want to be sure to find a travel agent who charges no fees; there are plenty of agents who work this way.  My agent only charges me the deposit that Disney would charge if I booked directly through them.  For instance, to book a package for this coming fall, I would need to put down a $200 deposit that is refundable until 45 days before my trip.  Your agent can also help you make periodic payments to Disney toward your vacation.

Good luck planning your upcoming Walt Disney World vacation.  Let us know if you need any additional advice as you plan.  We'd be happy to help!
