We are thinking of taking our first ever cruise after our Visit to Disney World. Wondering what is the advantage of the first versus second seating for meals? We will be 2 adults and one 10 year old. thank you.

    Ahoy Kathryn –

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Nancy and I are so happy to help guests with their cruise planning, and we hope you choose to cruise with Disney soon. Choosing a Dinner Seating can sometimes be difficult. The first seating for dining is usually at 5:45PM and this is a popular choice for families with young children and those who prefer to eat early.  My pirate crew falls into this group as I get particularly “hangry” (hungry+angry) after 6PM. Those in the first dining will enjoy the second round of shows in the Walt Disney Theatre in the evening around 8PM. For pirate families with sea pups that go to bed early, this is the preferred dining option. The second seating happens at 8:15PM and I often see families with older children and teens in this group. One of the advantages of the later dining is that families have more time to play (pool areas, excursions, deck activities) before they dine. The families in the second seating enjoy their shows before dinner. Another advantage is that on debarkation day, these families have a coveted late breakfast assignment which is helpful after a late night packing. Children in the second seating can participate in Dine and Play where they eat an expedited meal and then Youth Counselors will take them to play in the Oceaneer Club. Kathryn, I hope with these tips you can pick the best options for your family and if you need more help, please come back to see us here!
