I am thinking about taking my daughter to disney for her 4th birthday which is Jan. 8th. I am searching for reservations and they are telling me there is nothing available anywhere during this time. Is there any reason why this week would be so popular?

    Hi Michele,

What a super mom you are to want to take your daughter to Disney World for her 4th birthday! I can't think of a more awesome place to celebrate.

There is indeed a special event taking place during that time so I'm not surprised to hear everything is booked.  The Walt Disney World Marathon weekend is scheduled for January 6th - 9th, 2011.  This is a mega popular event with runners from all over the world that come to the "world" to participate in the events which include:

    • The Marathon
    • Half Marathon
    • Goofy's Race & a Half Challenge
    • Disney's Family Fun Run 5K
    • Mickey's Marathon Kids' Fest
If you go the week before, you'll run into the last of the Christmas holiday crowds.  Martin Luther King Day is Monday, January 17th so that long holiday weekend may be a little crowded as well. If your dates of travel are flexible, I'd avoid those dates. You can still do all of the celebrating even if its a few days later than her actual birthday. I, for one, believe in celebrating my birthday month.

Wishing you many magical memories :-) Allison
