Hi, we are thinking of staying at Fort Wilderness Campground in the rv hookup site. Will you still get the disney experience there or are we better at a moderate resort as we always stay in one?

    Erin:

Our family considers Fort Wilderness our home away from home. We've stayed here (I'm answering your question right now in my RV at the fort) so many times I've lost count. It sounds like you are a regular camper if you own an RV, and I can tell you that camping at Disney is nothing like any other campground experience you'll have--nor the facilities as large or clean. Best of all, you can find enough to keep you busy without visiting the parks.

The fort provides its own Disney experience: rustic with a nod to the southern climate with moss-laden trees and split-rail fences. Having the outdoors to enjoy adds extra space that a resort simply cannot give you, yet you still have all of the amenities of a Disney resort hotel from its two pools to water sports, both counter and full-service restaurants and experiences unique to the fort including horseback rides, archery lessons, bike and golf cart rental and a free campfire singalong complete with a meet-and-greet with Chip 'n' Dale. I would encourage you to at least give Fort Wilderness a try. The boat to Magic Kingdom alone provides better theme park transportation than any moderate resort can offer, not to mention a view of the Magic Kingdom fireworks.

I recommend asking for a site with a water or woods view so that you can soak up the wild life but expect to see deer, turkey and the occasional armadillo or bunny regardless of where you stay. I'm partial to the canal spots on the full hookup loops of 1600 and 1800 or a woods view in the premium loops of 800, 900, or 1000. Most of all, don't forget to bring outside lights to hang from your awning or even to decorate your site. You'll find most folks enjoy personalizing their sites.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
