We are thinking of planning a trip to WDW in February 2022. What do you think we can we expect for crowds, ride refurbishments and weather? Sill trying to decide if February is a good time for us to go. Thanks from Canada!

    Hello Karen,

It's wonderful to hear you're thinking of planning and booking a visit to the Walt Disney World Resort. I've enjoyed visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" in every month of the year over my many vacations with my family. I think February is one of my most favorite times of the year to visit and experience all the magic.

You ask some great -- and very popular -- questions about crowd sizes, attractions and experiences that are closed for refurbishment, and weather. Let me offer my own personal take on these.

I find there's always so much magic to see, do, and experience throughout the year that, in general, there isn't really an "off season" when you can predictably expect crowds to be lower than normal. That said, I think you can plan around events when you can predictably expect crowds to be higher.

For example, if you're considering February, you'll want to be mindful of federal holidays such as Presidents' Day (Monday, February 21, 2022) when vacationers take advantage of the long holiday weekend to visit.  You'll also want to be mindful of the big events like the Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend which is scheduled for February 24 - 27, 2022. I'll also mention, though, that marathon weekends can be super fun and, while crowds are higher, so is the excitement, energy, and enthusiasm. The race events create an amazing and high-spirited atmosphere both for those who run and for those who cheer (or should I say "chEAR"). It's really something to experience.

One additional note on crowds that you'll want to keep in mind is that you'll be visiting during "The World’s Most Magical Celebration" as Guests honor the 50th anniversary of the Walt Disney World Resort for 18 months starting October 1. It's sure to be an exciting celebration for every Guest to enjoy.

My general take on refurbishments is that typically there will always be some attractions that are scheduled for enhancements. There will also be the unplanned times when attractions aren't operational or experiences are modified. You can view the scheduled refurbishments on the park hours calendar page for the days you're planning to visit. My best suggestion, which I hinted at before, is to know that there will always be lots of magic to see, do, and experience. I like to say that the magic is in the moment, and the moment is what you make of it.

You also asked about weather in February. My take is to plan for pleasant weather and expect the unexpected. You could find days are hot enough for shorts and tees, or you could find nights are cold enough that you want a warm jacket. I'll be the first to say that we often find ourselves stopping in to the Main Street, U.S.A. Emporium or other merchandise locations to pick up a comfy warming layer while in the theme parks.

Karen, I also encourage you to check out the planDisney Panel Extras and the planDisney Video Library where you can find all sorts of tips to help make your planning easier and your stay more magical.

Here's wishing you a wonderful Walt Disney World Resort vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Jerry, Pennsylvania

The playful and creative optimism of all things Disney has enthralled me since I was a kid. I loved watching "The Wonderful World of Disney" on Sunday nights, seeing all the live-action and animated classics in theaters, and — of course — visiting "The Most Magical Place on Earth" for the first time 45 years ago. These days, the big kid in me still loves to play Disney. As a long-time Disney destinations vacationer, I'm looking forward to helping you play Disney starting here at planDisney!
