We are thinking of driving down and staying in a cheaper hotel off site and then checking in (Contemporary) the 1st day our dining plan and tickets start. What time can we check in and/or park and get on the monorail there?

Ashley, your plan will work very well! In fact, we've done the same thing on several of our visits to Walt Disney World.

I would arrive the Contemporary Resort approximately one hour prior to the Magic Kingdom park opening time for the day that you will begin touring. And 1.5 hours prior to another park's opening time.

This will allow time to park, check in, etc. If your room is ready, you may be able to get slightly settled too. If not, you'll be given everything you'll need to begin touring as well as a number to call to check on your room's status.

After check in, simply walk to the Magic Kingdom's entrance if this is your first park. If you are headed to Epcot, Animal Kingdom or Disney's Hollywood Studios, drive to your chosen park after checking in at the Contemporary!

Remember that Bell Services can store your luggage until your room is ready or you can leave items in your vehicle.
