I am thinking of doing the prepaid gratuity of £75 before sailing. Will I be expected to be charged more for gratuity while onboard? Will I need cash for tipping room service etc? It is just myself and my 4 year old going.

Cheers, Mariana, and welcome to planDisney! What a sweet Mother-Child cruise you’re about to embark upon, so I’m glad I get to be the one to help you plan all the special details in advance so you can focus on making memories together at sea soon.

One of the reasons I love cruising with Disney so much is that I know in advance what my vacation will cost, and the cruise fare includes just about everything you could need (or want) while at sea. That being said, the crew members provide such exceptional service, so I welcome the chance to show them a small piece of my appreciation through tipping…and pre-paying gratuities is one of the smartest moves you can make.

Not only does it give me greater peace of mind by not having to worry about it once onboard, but when you pre-pay your gratuities, you’ll receive a print-out with perforated paper you can divide up accordingly and slip into the assigned envelopes for everyone from your Stateroom Host to your Lead Server. Now, if you do decide to purchase something like a specialty coffee or an after-dinner drink at Europa, a tip for exceptional service is always appreciated. Likewise, I always bring some cash for tipping porters who help with my bags at the port or when I decide to order room service onboard (even though the room service itself is complimentary).

I also noticed you asked about what the dress codes will be for your sailing on the Disney Fantasy. While you won’t find any required attire for any of the rotational dining restaurants, you’ll be delighted to know that your itinerary includes a Pirate Night on Night 2 after your day in Cherbourg. It’s always fun to see our favorite Disney Characters in their finest pirate garb, so we like to dress accordingly. Just remember, whether to dress up or not is completely up to you. That means if you want to get fancy one night, even though there’s no official Formal Night, feel free to dress like royalty!

What a magical adventure you and your little one have ahead, Mariana! Some of my favorite memories were made on a Disney Cruise I took with just my mom; it’s a truly unforgettable way to bond and experience the world together. I hope this upcoming voyage brings you both joy, wonder, and plenty of pixie-dusted moments at sea and ashore in France. If any other questions come up as you count down to August, I hope you’ll sail back to planDisney.

    Bon voyage,
    Sami
