Hi, I am thinking about a Disney cruise. I have 5 kids however, so there would be 7 of us. I was wondering if it makes sense to book two rooms then, one balcony and one across the hall as an interior room. Is this an option & a lot more costly?

    Hiya, pal!

Welcome to planDisney. And welcome to the beginning of one of your greatest adventures as you join Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie onboard the Disney Cruise Line.

All of the Disney Cruise Line ships have at least one stateroom that could accommodate a family of 7. But those extra-large staterooms tend to be the highest-end options in the concierge section of the ship or the funnel/tower suites. A friend of mine invited my family to tour her family's stateroom when they sailed in a Concierge Royal Suite with Verandah on the Disney Magic. It was a fabulous space to behold. Alas, such options are somewhat above what my budget allows.

But do you want to know a secret? It's really OK with me still. That is because by booking two staterooms, such as a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom with Verandah and a Deluxe Inside Stateroom, you unlock the holy grail of travel luxuries for larger families: TWICE THE NUMBER OF BATHROOMS! That is to say, what you are suggesting is perhaps the most cost-effective way to cruise with large families like ours. To save even more, you could choose a Standard Inside Stateroom. But hear me out here. When you splurge just a little bit to book a Deluxe Inside Stateroom instead of a Standard, you get the benefit of Disney Cruise Line's innovative split bathroom design. The split bathroom gives you one private bathroom with a shower/tub and a sink and another bathroom with a commode and a sink. If you have a Deluxe Oceanview Stateroom and a Deluxe Inside Stateroom, that's almost like having four private bathrooms! Talk about opportunities for efficiency in getting ready for dinner in your rotational dining room each night!

There are several ways to do something like this. My family's first cruise was to Alaska. With the gorgeous scenery all around the ship, we didn't want to miss a thing. So we booked one stateroom on the port side of the Disney Wonder and another stateroom on the starboard side and split our family of six between the two rooms. On our second cruise, we were more interested in the youth clubs and family activities. So we booked two inside staterooms adjacent to each other with connecting doors between them. On our third family cruise, we remembered that we did enjoy those ocean views. So we compromised and booked one Oceanview Stateroom and one Inside Stateroom directly across the hall. We have continued to book arrangements similar to one of these three options on all our other cruises. On our next cruise, we have two connecting Deluxe Oceanview Staterooms. In every configuration, we have enjoyed great amenities, amazing service from our Stateroom Hosts, and a magical time on each cruise.

I hope you have an amazing time on your Disney cruise. As you continue to get ready, please let us know if there are any other questions you have. We'd love to hear from you again.

    Happy sailing!
