Was thinking about a date night with DH at F&W fest. Is it realistic to think we could enjoy it for a couple hours for a date or should we just try and explore as a family during the day?

Hi Laura!  The Food and Wine festival at Epcot is a fun special event each fall.  I think it would be a perfect spot for a date night and would highly suggest you experience it this way versus taking your children.  This is especially true on the weekends when the partying can get a bit over the top.

You can easily spend a couple of hours there and if you choose not to make an advanced dining reservation at one of the World Showcase restaurants then you can simply walk around and "graze" by purchasing the various foods offered at the different booths. There will be lines but if you don't mind standing in lines while you walk around and eat then this is a fun way to taste and try many different cuisines.

There is usually a concert going on in the American Adventure pavilion by one of the "oldie goldie" groups from the past. They will play several times each night and seating is first come and free.  You will also find other street entertainment as well as characters to enjoy and see in the World Showcase. To end your evening be sure and take in the beautiful Illuminations night time laser and fireworks show. Great spots can be found all along the lake and you can usually find one about 30 minutes before the show begins at 9pm each night.

If you choose a Saturday to visit you can also consider the Party for the Senses party which is a special ticket and held in what was called the Millennium Pavilion. Here for the price of the ticket you can walk around the spacious facility trying many great chef's offerings. You can eat as much as you wish and have the opportunity to taste various wines from around the world. This is held most Saturdays during the Festival.
