Thinking of coming either week before Memorial Day weekend or week following - any advice on picking when to arrive? Caribbean resort or somewhere else with a kids splash area &water slide, suggestions? Best character dining? 2 and 5 year old

    Hi Ashley,

I am sure you are excited to get started planning your magical trip to Walt Disney World, so you have come to the right place. Deciding on your travel date and budget are two of the most important steps in the process as they help determine many other factors. Personally, I would choose to come the week prior to Memorial Day. Memorial Day weekend and after is when the summer crowds will be begin. The weather in May will be warm but not typically as hot and steamy as the summer months.

In regards to choosing a resort, Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort is a fun and a pretty centrally located spot. Another fun alternative for your kids ages might be the value resort, Disney's Art of Animation Resort. It is themed after several classic Disney films and the Big Blue Pool is the largest on property with a fun splash area that is meant to resemble the ocean from Finding Nemo. It is zero entry in some areas and you can even hear the music under the water. There is a great food court called Landscape of Flavors, perfect for grabbing breakfast before you hit the parks for the day. There are standard rooms in the Little Mermaid section and spacious family suites with kitchenettes in the other sections of the resort.

My personal picks for amazing character dining are Crystal Palace, 1900 Park Fare, and Tusker House. I highly recommend doing at least one character meal. It is one of the quintessential Disney experiences. Do keep in mind that little ones can be wary, so follow their lead with the character interactions.

Feel free to stop back by with more questions as your planning continues.
