Hi Laurel!
One of the reasons Walt Disney choose this inland area was to be safer from storms. Though hurricanes are rarely a threat to Orlando, the parks have been closed about seven times due to a named storm, so you are smart to think ahead. After a few decades of life on the Carolina coast, I can't even recall the names of all the hurricanes that have rolled through my town. Here we follow the storm models closely and evacuate when it's called for.
Walt Disney World puts safety first and will do the same-evacuate
Campsites at Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort if needed. During some storms, campers have been offered alternate lodgings, but each situation is different so there is no guarantee of this.
If the National Weather Service issues a hurricane warning for Orlando within seven days of your arrival date, you may change or cancel your resort or vacation package without a change fee. You could incur some costs, however, if you reschedule for a time when tickets or other items are higher. Read the
Hurricane Policy thoroughly if a hurricane is brewing around your vacation dates.
I hope the only breeze you encounter is from careening around Big Thunder Mountain!
