We are thinking about booking a trip with you in September-my kids are sensitive to scary things. How spooky is the Halloween festivities in the parks?

Hi Katie! Welcome to planDisney! You've brought us a great question that has me excited just imagining Halloween time at Disneyland Resort.

Disneyland Resort has something for everyone of all ages and interests and I believe the same goes for the holiday and celebration times. My family loves visiting the parks during Halloween time. The majority of the Halloween celebration throughout the parks includes fun for all ages like decorations, limited-time food offerings, and getting to see our favorite characters donning their best costumes. I was listening to the latest episode of the PlanDisney Podcast and they said that Minnie and Mickey will be unveiling new costumes!

The one thing I would look into ahead of time is the limited time overlays on a few attractions like Space Mountain, Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT!, and Haunted Mansion. My kids are all thrill-seekers so they have loved all of these overlays. I would most likely stay away from Space Mountain and Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: Monsters After Dark, but they may do okay on Haunted Mansion Holiday. This has the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay and I actually think it may be less scary than the original version of the attraction. If your kids do okay with that movie, they should be able to handle the attraction.

Be sure not to miss out on my favorite part of Halloween time -- Cars Land. The decor is over-the-top creative and just so fun! It's definitely an area to enjoy without the worry of anything being too spooky.

There's also Oogie Boogie Bash, which so many friends of mine rave about. This is an extra ticketed event that is fun for all ages, but there are also some areas or treat trails that may be a little too spooky for your kiddos.

Katie, I know you and your family will have plenty of treats without the tricks during your Disneyland Resort visit. Please come back and visit us again if you have any other questions as you plan.
