We are thinking of going around Thanksgiving or Christmas. When is the park decorated for Christmas? Do you know of Thanksgiving dinner places? Is that a high crowd day? Thank you

Hi, Michelle!  Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel.

I am so happy to hEAR that you are thinking about visiting the Walt Disney World Resort during the holiday season!  Nothing gets me into the holiday spirit like seeing Elsa transform Cinderella Castle into a glittering ice palace.  Typically, the Walt Disney World theme parks are decorated for Christmas right after Halloween. This year, the last Mickey's Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is scheduled for November 1, and the first Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party will take place on November 8.  You can expect the holiday transformation to magically take place overnight at some point between these two events.

While it's very difficult to accurately predict crowd levels at the Walt Disney World Resort, the holiday season is a popular time to visit.  Anytime that children have a break from school tends to be a busy time for family vacations.  In my own personal experience, Thanksgiving break tends to have lighter crowds than Christmas break.  I visited the Walt Disney World Resort last year during the week after Thanksgiving, and the crowd levels were not bad at all.  While Thanksgiving weekend tends to be a busier time, if you can extend your trip into the following week, you might experience lighter crowds.  As long as you plan ahead for your trip by making dining reservations, selecting your FastPass+, and planning for your must-do attractions and entertainment offerings, I think you'll have a great time even if the theme parks are a bit busier than normal.

Dining locations offering Thanksgiving dinner have not yet been announced for 2019.  However, in past years, many restaurants throughout the Walt Disney World Resort served a traditional holiday meal on Thanksgiving Day.  Liberty Tree Tavern in Magic Kingdom Park is a great choice since they serve a traditional, family-style Thanksgiving dinner every day of the year.  My friend and fellow panelist, Amy, is a vegan and recommends Liberty Tree Tavern's Revolutionary Meatloaf.  In past years, California Grill at Disney's Contemporary Resort has also been a popular spot for Thanksgiving dinner with an incredible view.  Be sure to keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for announcements about this year's Thanksgiving offerings, and make those dining reservations as soon as possible.

If you have any additional vacation planning questions, feel free to send them my way.  Have a magical day!
