I think I read somewhere that when our family stops in guest services first thing to obtain a DAS for my son that they will give us a “return time” for an attraction of our choice without us having been there yet. Is this correct?

Hello Amy and thank you for asking the Disney Parks Moms Panel such an important question about your dear families upcoming trip to the magic of Walt Disney World Resort.
It's a pleasure for me to share with you that you're sure to discover many wonderful Services for Guests with Disabilities when visiting Walt Disney World Resort including the Disability Access Service Card (DAS) which is designed to assist Guests who are unable to wait in a conventional queue scenario.  I'm happy to share that Guests wishing to utilise a Disability Access Service Card (DAS) should upon arrival at any Disney Theme Park head directly to a Guest Relations location where helpful Cast Members are always waiting to assist.
And to try and best explain the DAS card is that it's designed to accommodate those Guests who are unable to wait in conventional queues due to a disability which is either apparent or non-apparent and after issue the DAS card can provide Guests with a return time slot for Attractions based on current wait times plus can be used in conjunction with FastPass+ selections; additionally as soon as a Guest finishes 1 attraction they can receive a return time for another and so on.
For your further information and to best assist your dear son I thought you may also find this Disney Parks Blog - Disability Access Service Card Fact Sheet to be a useful planning resource for your upcoming family trip.
    Have a great Disney day.
