Do you think its a good idea to take the kids for the first time to disney the first week of January with christmas break? Is it still crazy that week? What is the weather like then

I have been going to WDW during January for over 15 years. I can tell you that the weather is unpredictable. We have had years when we were bundled up in jackets and even gloves to keep warm.

Mostly we wear jeans, t-shirts and zippered sweatshirts. Some times it's been warm enough for shorts during the afternoon.

We have had a couple of trips where it was quite warm all day and evening. This is not the norm, however.

Therefore it is difficult to plan ahead for packing when visiting Walt Disney World in January. I usually pack layers. I also watch the forecast and adjust what I've packed according to the the weather being predicted right before we leave.

We do not spend as much time swimming at the resort as we do other times of the year. Although many guests visiting from the North feel the weather is perfectly fine for swimming. While these guests are swimming, the lifeguards are usually bundled in blankets!

The plus is that the crowds are very light. Usually attendance drops off when kids resume school after the New Year's holiday. In 2009, January 5th is the first day back to school for many children. Just note that many people bring their families to WDW when they come to participate in the WDW Marathon being held January 8-11.

We have always found any days following the Martin Luther King Weekend to be very pleasant with low crowds.

    Hope this helps!
