How do things work with getting Fast Passes and Rise of the Resistance in Magic Kingdom?

    Hi Karen!

Your Walt Disney World vacation will soon be here! In not too long, you will be in sight of Cinderella Castle, flying with Peter Pan, and singing along to a happy tune as you float through "it's a small world."

When Walt Disney World reopened in July 2020, FastPass+ did not return. Sometime this fall, Disney Genie+ will be implemented in its place. Genie+ will be a purchased add-on to your ticket that allows you to pick the next available time for a Lightning Lane entrance one attraction at a time. The Lightning Lane entrance allows you to bypass the stand-by line as FastPass+ did. For example, you select  9:15 am to board Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. After zipping and dipping on the wildest ride in the wilderness, you may pick a return time for another attraction. This program's start date has not been released, but if could easily be available by the time of your visit. You will be able to add Genie+ to previously purchased tickets.

Highly popular attractions, such as the Magic Kingdom's Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, will be unavailable with Genie+. These highly sought after experiences may be accessed through the traditional queue or with a separately purchased Lightning Lane pass. Disney has not yet announced which attractions will be Genie+ and which ones will require a separate Lightning Lane selection.

Until quite recently, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance in Disney's Hollywood Studios required a boarding pass for a virtual queue. Currently the virtual queue for this attraction (which is amazingly spectacular- do try to experience it) is suspended and a traditional stand-by line is available. Once Genie+ is released, this attraction seems like a contender for a separate Lightning Lane selection, but we won't know until more information has been announced.

As Genie+ rolls out, you might find you have additional questions. Please come back to planDisney if you want more information.

Enjoy your visit to see Mickey!
