Hi there, WE are planning a family trip to Disney Dec 2024. Our family is big so I am struggling to book accommodation as everything says the size of the group is to big.....surely I would be able to book some family rooms some double etc.

Why hello there Lani, I'd like to wish you a very Royal welcome here to planDisney!

Planning a big family gathering anywhere can be challenging, and it's especially tricky when you're looking forward to flying internationally for the holiday season at Walt Disney World Resort when availability is limited with the influx of Christmastime crowds. When we were planning our Disney Fairy Tale Wedding this year we flew in family from around the world, and here's a few personal tips and tricks to keep in mind with accommodating bigger groups:

    • Divide and Conquer: What turned out to be one of the easier ways for us to manage a large group was by splitting everyone into smaller configurations when looking up rooms across the Disney Resorts Collection. In fact, the search options limited the amount of adults and children that we could select and we were required to book each room separately. Afterward, we could just reach out to the Cast Members via the online chat option or by phone with each of the reservation numbers to request that they be placed together; I recommend booking within the same category so that connecting rooms can be requested!
    • Leave it to the Professionals: Some families even plan large happenings and book special event venues through Disney Meetings & Events, which could be helpful if your group is especially large and you're interested in something called a room block. Another good idea is to contact the Group Reservations line directly if you're looking at 10 or more separate rooms, and some big groups benefit from having an Authorized Disney Vacation Planner or personal travel agent handle the wrangling of rooms.
I hope that this was helpful Lani! As I mentioned earlier, don't be discouraged if you're having difficulty finding rooms as it's typically a very popular week for families to travel to Orlando en masse and we personally found it easier overall a month before and after Christmas. Come back to planDisney again for any more answers ahead of your next adventure!

Wishing all the best to your 'Ohana!
