Hi there, My husband and I have a dream of running the disney half in January together. Any idea on how we can secure a couple bibs. I feel like i've tried every year for years and it seems to sell out so fast i'm not sure what i'm doing wrong.

Hi Sarah and welcome to planDisney! Thank you for personally reaching out to me with your question. As a runDisney enthusiast, I am especially grateful and happy to provide you with an answer so let’s race on over to your question. On your mark, get set, GO!

I’m sorry you weren’t able to register for the upcoming Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend. I know how difficult it can be to register for a runDisney race. Luckily, there are a couple options for you to snag a bib after registration! First and foremost, runDisney collaborates with many charities for each of the runDisney races. In return for fundraising a minimum amount, the charity will provide you with a race bib. I personally went this route for my first ever runDisney race several years ago and it was such a fulfilling experience knowing that my hard work and fundraising was going to a good cause. And just in case you have any concerns, charity bibs work just like regular ones! You’ll receive your registration packet, complete with bib and racing shirt provided by runDisney, along with your medal at the finish line. For Marathon Weekend, here’s a link to some of the participating charities.

In addition, runDisney may also open up registration again from time to time. runDisney does not maintain a waitlist, so you’ll want to be quick on your toes to snag a bib. Here’s a bonus tip! Several social media and runDisney fan groups provide alerts to their group members when bibs may be available again, so I suggest searching some of these out and joining them. But like I said, you’ll have to move fast to secure that bib!

Finally, since it sounds like you and your husband have been trying for a couple years, here’s some suggestions for the next runDisney race registration. You may want to consider other races that also offer half marathons. There’s generally a lot of demand for Marathon Weekend (especially with this year’s Donald Duck theming!), so picking another race may give you additional chances and options. The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend is another event that has a half marathon and the course typically mirrors that of the half marathon at Marathon Weekend! My wife and I ran that course last year, so it’s especially memorable for us because it was both her first half marathon and runDisney race! Another helpful tip is to have both you and your husband enter the registration queue. Luckily, runDisney allows individuals to register additional participants, so having both you and your husband entering the queue doubles your chances! In order to ensure a speedy registration process, you can also save your information that you’ll be entering in, such as your address or payment option, on a separate document so that you can just copy and paste that info when it’s your turn in the queue.

Sarah, as we approach the finish line, I want to thank you again for personally reaching out to me and I’m wishing you all the pixie dust that you and your husband will be able to successfully register for a runDisney half marathon! These are such fun and magical events and a great way to incorporate exercise and wellness into our love of Disney. If you have any more questions, I would be honored to answer!

    Your pal,

    Sean
