Hi there, Cristina! Welcome to planDisney!
What an absolute
DREAM of a Disney cruise your family will be sailing on! Just when we thought Disney cruises couldn’t get better, they sail through the breathtaking Italian coastline! To quote my girl, Lizzie McGuire, “Hey Now! This is what dreams are made of!”
I’m pretty sure you’re referring to “Port Adventures” when you ask for “day trip suggestions”, as you will have the splendid opportunity to partake in many
Port Adventures. While I have personally not sailed on this magical
Mediterranean voyage (but you better believe it’s on my list), I have done many Port Adventures with my multigenerational family. Therefore, I’m happy to share my tips that will help you choose the one that’s right for your group.
Think about the vast majority of interests within your group. Do you love to sightsee? Are you foodies? Historians? Appreciators of fine home decor who would love to see the Carrara Marble Michelangelo chose? Art lovers? Reenactors of famous Roman scenes from
The Lizzie McGuire Movie (my personal choice)? There are plenty of these types of activities at each port you’re stopping at!
Next, think about everyone’s activity level. Are you trekkers who wouldn’t mind hiking? Long walks through cobblestone? Do you prefer river tours?
Lastly, think about ages. Since you mentioned you have a 17-year-old and a 12-year-old in your group, some Port Adventures won’t be available for them, such as a Wine Tour. If you want to stick together as a group, choose one available for all of your ages, or choose to separate for that particular port (which is an option my own group has done during many Port Adventures!).
To find the Port Adventure that's right for your group, start at the Port Adventures page on the Disney Cruise Line website. Scroll down to “Port Adventures by Destination”, and then “
Mediterranean Port Adventures”. Here, you can filter further by port/city. Then, filter by activity level, experience type, price range, and accessibility to give you an idea of how walkable it is. Through “Experience Type”, you can get an idea of how family-friendly it would be, and whether it would be good for multiple age groups. Each Port Adventure will also have the age range listed next to it. If you want to do one as a whole group, I recommend choosing ones that start from 0-10 years, as above that tends to run only for ages 18 and older. Since you mentioned "day trips", this gives me the sense that you're wanting one with a shorter time limit. Clicking on one will tell you if it meets your desired time span.
You may book Port Adventures once your
booking window opens in the
Disney Cruise Line Navigator App, by tapping “My Plans” and then “Port Adventures” under each port day. I highly recommend booking them early, as popular ones tend to fill up quickly (understandably so, because—Italy!).
If you have questions once on board, I recommend visiting the Port Adventures Desk, where they will be happy to give you more information.
Cristina, I wish you exciting adventures ahead, and memories that are an absolute Dream!
Ciao for now,
Rana
