Hello Shelagh!
Welcome to planDisney! I love your diligence in researching how to make the most of your upcoming Walt Disney World holiday. You are correct, the Disability Access Service (DAS) has just undergone a bit of a change. There has always been an interview process before approval but now it will only be done via video chat with a Cast Member. This is true even if you are in the Parks. No longer will you have to speak to a Cast Member at Guest Relations in person. On-site guests are directed to a video chat. Unfortunately, guests outside of the United States must wait until they arrive to get registered. This video conversation can only happen while in the United States but can be done as soon as you land. You can have this conversation 30 days before you arrive or even the morning of your first Park day. When you arrive,
head to this page and click "Terms and Conditions." Whoever in your party needs this service must be present or nearby during this conversation. Don't forget to log into your
MyDisney account before you begin. There could be a long wait time but please be patient.
The video chat is now going to include a deeper conversation regarding the many
other services that could also assist your party. I'm a big fan of
Rider Switch as I have an anxious child who is tall enough to ride but just not willing to join us on certain attractions. I can finally enjoy the experience without having to wait a separate time on the standby line. A ride that you may be glad to have Rider Switch for is
Tiana's Bayou Adventure which opens June 28th. I know that I will love it but my child will hate that big drop. But, who knows Shelagh, magical things happen every day!
I hope this helps and you have a great trip!
Happy Planning!
