Hi Kanani,
We have booked trips both by ourselves and through reputable travel agents, and I've become partial to having a travel agent make the arrangements because they make all the calls, which I found much easier for me with my work schedule. Some travel agencies, such as AAA, offer special perks. Just last week while at WDW, we were able to participate in a special event called Disney Story Time presentation to a private group of guests where Mary Poppins read a story & then signed autographs & had pictures taken; this is only offered to guests who booked a WDW package through AAA. I've also worked with www.EnchantedDestinations.net, which booked all of our dining reservations for us.
To help with your initial planning, I'd encourage you to get a the free planning dvd by clicking
here. You may also want to subscribe to the weekly newsletter from www.allearsnet.com and the monthly newsletter from www.mousesavers.com. And finally to help with dining, I highly recommend www.disneyfoodblog.com as well as its newsletter.
Happy planning for your first WDW trip! Please don't hesitate to ask us more questions.
