Hey there, Lucas! Welcome back to planDisney! EPCOT may stand for Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow, but perhaps it should be Estimated Pace Of Complimentary Transportation.
A few factors might contribute to different travel times between the
My Disney Experience mobile app and other navigation apps. The first is the time of day. It’s very common to get different travel time estimates at different times of the day, especially in the morning as resort guests head to the parks and there are more vehicles on the road. I just looked up the same directions as yesterday, but a few hours earlier, and the My Disney Experience mobile app now estimates a 40-minute journey to get from Congress Park at Saratoga Springs to EPCOT.
Another factor is that the My Disney Experience mobile app includes walking time in its estimate, not just the bus ride. It doesn’t provide a breakdown of walking time vs. bus time (or monorail, water taxi, etc.), but including the walk from the EPCOT bus stops to the main entrance would add time to the overall estimate.
planDisney panelists aren’t privy to the algorithmic inner workings of the My Disney Experience app or Google’s navigation tools, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a difference in how each gathers information and estimates travel times. Whether you get travel times from the My Disney Experience mobile app or somewhere else, it’s important to remember that all travel times are estimates and subject to change.
Lucas, I hope this information helps you navigate the Vacation Kingdom and that you have a great time at
EPCOT.
There’s so much happening this summer! Let me know if you have any more questions about your upcoming trip. We’re always happy to help!
Magical travels!
Matt
