Thanks Kaylene for answering my question about standard vs preferred rooms. I am thinking of the AS Sports or AS Music so would it be worth the price difference with either to upgrade ?

    Hi again Bill,

The "Surfs Up" buildings at All Star Sports and the "Calypso" buildings at All Star Music are the preferred buildings. These are located very close to the main pool and the food court buildings (Stadium Hall at All Star Sports and Melody Hall at All Star Music). The bus stop for each resort is located right in front of those buildings as well. That being said, the preferred buildings can tend to be a bit noisier because of their location at those resorts.

When my family stayed in the All Star Sports Resort, we booked standard rooms but requested the "Touchdown" (football) buildings. These are much quieter and yet are located very close to Stadium Hall. If you were lucky enough to get Touchdown, you wouldn't need the upgrade. However, if you ended up in the "Homerun Hotel" (baseball) or "Center Court" (tennis) buildings, you might find that you wish you had paid for preferred as they are located a bit further away. At All Star Music Resort, the "Jazz Inn" is relatively close, but some of the others can be a bit of a hike.

If you book a preferred room, you are guaranteed to be in particular buildings. With standard rooms, you can always request the next closest buildings (Touchdown or Jazz Inn) but it's never guaranteed. To increase your chances of getting one of those, you can put in the request when making your reservation. In addition, you'll call the resort directly 9 days prior to arrival and ask to speak with a room assigner. You can call again on the day you arrive, since it never hurts to reiterate. When I've done these things, I've had very good luck in the past. Honestly, with the All Star resorts, I think I'd pass on the preferred room and take my chances with a room request. There are other resorts that preferred versus standard can make or break it, but not at these resorts. Save the money and get yourself some more souvenirs.

Have a wonderful vacation and please let me know if I can assist you further,

    Kaylene
