Thanks Diane for answering my earlier question! My Dad's bday falls during our visit & after your answer I figured a rez @ California Grill @ Contemporary for early dinner sounded like a plan. Is this a good option with kids?

    Hi Fiona,

Glad I could be of some assistance.  California Grill is one of my favorite restaurants, especially if you are looking for someplace a bit more upscale.  Every place in Walt Disney World is child friendly, but this is more of what my children would consider a "fancy" restaurant and would be expected to be on their best behavior.  You know your children best and know what they are capable of handling after spending a day in an amusement park.

An early reservation sounds great.  Although, if you think your party can handle it, I recommend trying to get a reservation so that you will be at the restaurant during the fireworks.  They stop serving at that time and have an observation deck where they pipe in the music from Wishes.  The view is spectacular!

For some reason if you can't get reservations to California Grill, I would recommend Jiko at the Animal Kingdom.  You can go out on the Savannah and view the animals before or after dinner.  They even have night vision goggles so you can see better.

Coral Reef at EPCOT is also a fun dining experience.  The aquarium covers an entire wall of the restaurant.

Wherever you decide to eat, you can order a cake to be delivered at your table for the special event.  Call (407) 827-2253 at least 48 hours in advance, or order a 6" celebration cake when you arrive at the restaurant.

    Bon Appetit!

Meet the Panelist: Diane, Georgia

After spending 25 years in RI, my husband and I relocated to GA with our youngest, who is now in high school. I took my first trip to Walt Disney World when I was 11 and I have traveled many times since then with all different party sizes. From creating our first itinerary as a honeymooner to later creating magical experiences for our multigenerational family gatherings, every aspect of planning a vacation has been pure joy to me.  Learn More About Diane
