Thank you for your response on DVC...as a follow up, sounds like you have a lot of points....did you purchase them all at once? And, what is your home resort? Am thinking of purchasing resale BCV..my kids are 16,11...hard to take them out of school....

    Hi Karen,

Welcome back!  Initially we were content with our purchase of 150 points at the Villas at Wilderness Lodge.  We had taken the tour while on vacation, and really enjoyed the no-pressure attitude of the cast members at the preview center.  I had been on "timeshare" presentations before with my parents and the pressure, the sales angles, the crazy promotions are still joked about in our family.  So needless to say I was pleasantly surprised with the DVC experience.  There was no pressure at all to buy that day, or that week even...but it only took us one afternoon of kicking it around and running the math to acknowledge that this was a good move for us.

It wasn't long after that the Beach Club Villas went on sale, and this was the perfect opportunity to add on to our membership.  We added another 150 points directly from our original Disney representative and the transaction was seamless.

For our final purchase, we opted to invest in Disney's Hilton Head Island Resort and wanted to explore the independent resale market.  We used the Timeshare Store and had a wonderful experience.  It was a little more work on our end, but they were wonderful to work with and I believe we got a fantastic deal!

Determining the amount of points that you family would need to take your "typical" vacation during your preferred time of year is the best place to start.  I suggest doing a quick google search for a Disney Vacation Club point chart and this will allow you to calculate your anticipated yearly points requirement.  Keep in mind that you can bank points, which allows you to purchase fewer points and travel every other year which may be optimal if you can only travel during peak seasons.

    Hope this helps!
