Hello Todd,
Welcome to planDisney! I’m so happy you’ve stopped by with a question about the
Cabins at Fort Wilderness. While staying in a Cabin, you’re in the middle of a cypress and pine forest, but you’ll be doing anything but roughing it! The Cabins are a great way to enjoy nature and relaxation, but still have amenities as you’d find at a Disney Resort hotel. My family of 6 stayed there this summer, and our countdown is on until we return in a few months!
The Cabins are a perfect place for my family to stay and they've become one of our favorite options onsite. We love having our own space and not having to worry about noise. Each Cabin is surprisingly spacious and sleeps up to 6 adults making it a great fit for families. My youngest two called dibs on the bunk beds the second they walked into the bedroom (the Chip 'n' Dale theme is so cute!), and my older two were excited to sleep on the pull-down bed in the living room. We also love the large bathroom with its roomy shower, and the bonus vanity outside the bathroom was perfect for allowing more people to get ready in the mornings and evenings.
One of the things I love most about DVC accommodations is having a kitchenette or, in Cabins and Villas, a full kitchen. We love starting our day with breakfast in our room before heading to the parks and on non-park days, we'll usually prepare a meal or two (each Cabin comes with a charcoal grill) and dine on the deck. We love the flexibility to enjoy meals at our own pace and help stretch our Disney budget. If you’d rather dine out, Fort Wilderness has plenty of options: Crockett’s Tavern for lounge fare, Trail’s End Restaurant for all meals (with Quick Service and Mobile Ordering), and for a rootin’ tootin’ good time,
Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue!
If you're wondering about activities nearby - don'tworry, there's so much to enjoy! Guests can head to the Meadow Swimmin' Pool with its lively atmosphere or the quiet pool near the Cabins for a more relaxed swim. Beyond the pools, there's plenty to try from horseback riding and fishing to biking the scenic trails, kayaking, gem mining, archery and much more. There's something for everyone to enjoy, whether you're looking for something active or slower-paced. My kids had the hardest time deciding what to do on our non-park days, but that's not a bad problem to have!
Evenings at Fort Wilderness are a lot of fun with favorites like
Chip 'n' Dale's Campfire Sing-Along, where you can roast marshmallows with your pals, and be sure to stick around for Movies Under the Stars. Then, visit the Settlement, where you can watch Happily Ever After and see the Electrical Water Pageant right from the beach.
We really loved the calmness of our Cabin stay - it was a great way to balance the excitement of the busy, exciting days at the theme parks followed by relaxing evenings surrounded by nature. When you are ready to head to the theme parks, transportation is easy! You can hop aboard a boat to Magic Kingdom for a relaxing and scenic ride, and if you're heading to the other parks, air-conditioned Disney buses are a ride away.
Todd, I hope this information is helpful as you plan your next Disney vacation. If you have any other questions, be like Tarzan and swing by planDisney again! Wishing you a stay full of core memories in the parks and just enough downtime to soak in the magic.
See ya real soon,
Candace
