How can you tell if any rides are going to be closed during your stay at Disney? We are traveling in the second week of September. Thank you!!

Hello Suzanne! Thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel. I usually compare two or three unofficial refurbishment schedules online when planning my vacation. I like looking at wdwinfo.com because it lists the operational improvements at the Walt Disney World Resort Hotels along with the theme park attractions. According to the 2015 refurbishment schedule there are only two attractions that will be closed during your stay in September. Voyage of The Little Mermaid will be closed for refurbishment for a few days from September 7, 2015 to September 10, 2015. I am terribly sorry to report that my favorite attraction in all of Walt Disney World, Pirates of the Caribbean, will also be closed for refurbishment until September 25, 2015.

Closings are all subject to change and the refurbishment schedules could also change by your vacation date, so I suggest to keep checking back. When you arrive at the parks, you can check out the Tip Board to get an official confirmation of any closings.

Always keep your eyes open, because even if an attraction is listed as 'closed' sometimes they are not! Last December the Haunted Mansion was listed as closed for refurbishment much to the dismay of my fellow Moms Panelist, Jason K. and I. As we walked by the opening, the gates were opened and there were people were coming out of the exit. We decided it was worth further inspection, and as it turns out it was running! It absolutely made our night, and I will never forget the experience of riding the Haunted Mansion with my Moms Panelist pal, Jason.

All in all, it looks like you have picked a great time to travel. If there is anything else we can help you with please don't hesitate to ask and have a magical Walt Disney World Vacation!

I am a recent graduate from Ball State University and mother to my 5-year-old son. We love all things Disney and when we aren’t watching Disney films or planning our next vacation, we love to go to touring Disney shows. I also love to cook, listen to music, read books, and paint. With my experience planning vacations and navigating the parks from a single parent’s perspective, I hope to be able to add a little “pixie dust” to your vacation! Learn More About Sarah
