Can you tell me about the monorail? In particular, which stops are not currently operating and how that effects getting to the hotels. Also, are there any bus cut backs? If we go to Disney Springs until late would there be any problem taking a bus back?

    Hi Karen,

Thank you for stopping by planDisney with your vacation planning question. The Walt Disney World Monorail Transportation is probably the most famous transportation offering at Walt Disney World and has many fans worldwide.  I still remember my first Magical monorail ride!

During the phased re-opening of the Walt Disney Resort you have probably noticed that operations have been modified in many different areas to promote the principles of enhanced cleaning, physical distancing, and reduced contact.  Currently the Resort Monorail, which services Disney's Grand Floridian Resort, Disney's Contemporary Resort, and Disney's Polynesian Villas and Bungalows, is active and takes Guests to and from these Resort hotels and Magic Kingdom.  However, due to refurbishments at the Great Ceremonial House at Disney's Polynesian Village Resort, monorail service will be temporarily suspended from that location in early October until approximately mid summer 2021.  If you happen to be staying at Disney's Polynesian Villas and Bungalows you may elect to use bus transportation to Magic Kingdom, or alternatively you may walk to the Ticket and Transportation Center via the walkway and take the Express Monorail to Magic Kingdom.

The Express Monorail, which originates at the Ticket and Transportation Center, is currently operating and provides round trip conveyance to Magic Kingdom.  However please note that the Express Monorail transportation to EPCOT is temporarily paused and Guests may use other transportation offerings from their Resort hotel.  All Disney Resort hotels have complimentary Resort hotel transportation to and from the theme parks and Disney Springs.  The transportation offering at your Resort hotel may vary depending upon which Resort you are staying.  The most common option is the Walt Disney World Bus Service.  You will be happy to know that bus service operates by demand and more buses are called to locations based on need so you should never be waiting for more than a few minutes for a ride even if you happen to depart at the same time as a few hundred of your not-so-close friends.

I have more good news! Bus service is available from Disney Springs 45 minutes before opening and continues until 1 hour after closing.  So feel free to have a great evening at Disney Springs and stay until close!  You will have a lovely air conditioned motorcoach waiting to whisk you off to your Disney Resort hotel before you turn into a pumpkin.

Thank you for stopping by and please let us know if we can answer any further questions.  We are always here to help you plan your next Magical adventure!
