Hiya John!
Welcome to planDisney! I would like to say that my 20,000 steps that one day in EPCOT a few years ago was my own personal Ironman race but we all know that's a weak comparison to the intensity of a true one. This is why I am here to congratulate you on completing one 20 years ago. I know I would not have survived as I always say that "I only run for the ice cream truck."
My research has found that since 2012 the Ironman 70.3 has been moved from Walt Disney World property but is still nearby in Polk County. However, if you are looking to run something a bit less intense, Walt Disney World has had various marathons on the property since 1994.
runDisney is considered "The Most Enchanting Running Event on Earth" and I know many who love to participate. You get a chance to run through the Parks, meet Disney characters on the sidelines, and earn a beautiful medal. I have been tempted to race just because the medals are that gorgeous.
runDisney is offered in both
Disneyland Resort and
Walt Disney World Resort as well as
virtually. You are welcome to run in costume and there is a chance to run with a
charity. The race allows guests to walk or run and is meant to be more fun than competitive. However, with your background I see you doing a great job winning a lead spot. Just remember to say "hi!" to my boss Mickey Mouse at least once.
I hope that this helps and you try to make a trip back down again to run in Walt Disney World Resort. Consider it a vacation marathon that ends in the pool. If you have any more questions feel free to
let us know!
Happy Planning!
