Hi Karalee!
Welcome BACK to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! It's great to see you hEAR again because that must mean that you're planning another great Walt Disney World Resort vacation!
Oh Boy! I am so excited to answer this question! The
Harmony Barber Shop on Main Street U.S.A. in
Magic Kingdom Park holds a very special place in my heart. This quaint little storefront with the striped barber pole out front may not seem like much, but generations of families keep coming back because of the memories and magic this wonderful little shop contains. My
mouseketeer had his very first haircut here at 14-months-old, and while he may not remember it or even really knew what was going on at the time, I'll forever cherish the experience of checking off that milestone at The Most Magical Place on Earth.
While guests of all ages can get their hair basically trimmed, with the option of a bit of style by way of spray or hair gel, the real star here is the 'My First Haircut' package, which comes with multiple mementos. With this package you'll receive a lock of your child's hair in a sachet bag, your stylist will sign and date a commemorative certificate, and the most adorable of all, this bundle comes with a classic Ear Hat that makes the 'after' photos that much more precious.
The stylists are wonderful when it comes to interacting with guests of all ages. And magical surprises and special guests have been known to pop in and out from time to time - everyone from
Disney PhotoPass Photographers to the
Dapper Dans to just maybe one of your favorite characters. There might even be some actual pixie dust, too! There was a lot of room for walk-ins the day we were there, however
advance reservations are recommended and can be made up to 180 days in advance.
Having said all that, if your kids are in need of a haircut, and/or they don't want a lot of attention while going about the rest of their Disney Day, I think this is a wonderful 'two-birds, one-location' option. However, if you are wanting something more noticeable and fun, any child between the ages of 3 and 12 can become a Princess or a Knight at the
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique. Or, another fun option would be the
face painting booths located in all four theme parks as well as in Disney Springs. These locations offer dozens of designs, but the artists definitely take requests. (Pro Tip: bring a picture if you or your boys have something specific in mind.) There is no age limit for face painting, and best of all this service even comes with free touch ups throughout the day!
I hope that this helped give you a better idea of what to expect at this beloved Disney location, Karalee. And if you have any more Walt Disney World Resort vacation planning questions, We're All Ears!
