What can you tell me about being a flag family at the Wilderness Lodge?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Robert!

Being the "Flag Family" at Disney's Wilderness Lodge is at the top of my personal Disney bucket list. I have always wanted to participate in this very special resort tradition. However, despite many years of visiting Disney's Wilderness Lodge, I have been unsuccessful in securing the opportunity to do this.

So, the designated "Flag Family" for the day gets to accompany one of the Rangers to the top of the main building of the Lodge to raise the American, state and Disney flags. The views from atop the Lodge are supposedly breathtaking. You have to ask upon check-in at Disney's Wilderness Lodge to see if any of the days during your reservation are available to sign up. If there is availability, there is no charge for the experience.

Unfortunately, when I called Disney's Wilderness Lodge this afternoon to ask for more details, the lovely Cast Member who answered the phone shared that the "Flag Family" opportunity is not currently being offered. Perhaps they needed to suspend the program as they expanded and refurbished the resort to include the Copper Creek Villas & Cabins at Disney's Wilderness Lodge. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that they revive this tradition soon. I would simply suggest that you ask about it when you check in at the beginning of your next stay at the Lodge.

    Best wishes,
    Jill
