Hi, can you tell me how Expedition Everest is like? Is it similar to Thunder Mountain Railroad? Are there drops like Tower of Terror?

    Hi Angelina,

I'm happy to share my thoughts on Expedition Everest!

First, let me say that Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is my very favorite ride at Walt Disney World. I love going fast over stomach-tickling "hills" and feeling slightly weightless in spots -- without the tension of steep inclines and stomach-churning drops. I could ride it again and again without stopping.

My favorite part of Tower of Terror is the gift shop and the nice shady bench outside it where I wait for my family as they ride. I have done Tower of Terror twice: once the year it opened and once more about six or seven years ago when my children, who were young at the time, shamed me into it. I just don't enjoy that plunging sensation.

So, in that context, let me tell you that I enjoy Expedition Everest, but it tests the outside edge of my roller coaster tolerance. I love riding it once a visit.

There's a steep initial climb of 112 feet. The view is amazing. The train stops at the top, then plunges backward into the dark. The train stops again, reverses course and speeds forward through the dark before bursting into the light and the 80-foot drop. More twists and turns in the dark follow. The menacing presence of the yeti looms over the entire experience, which is fun.

I find the intensity of the drops to be stronger in the back of the train.

My family loves the details of the Himalayan mountain village and the legend of the yeti that surrounds the ride. Photos and video are available on the site I linked above.

I hope that answers your question. Please let me know if I can be of any more help. Enjoy your visit!
