Hi Sara!
The Fort Wilderness Campground Resort is such a great place to spend time and explore. There is so much there to do that it is almost like its own theme park.
Many guests enjoy taking a carriage ride or
Wagon Ride throughout the many loops of the campground. During the holidays guests come and decorate their sites to the extreme bringing much holiday joy to all.
Depending on the time of year will depend on how early you should show up. Since this is a first come opportunity during the holiday weeks it can get very busy and the demand is more. If you have little ones you might consider coming as early as 4:30/4:45 and let them enjoy a pony ride. These are located right behind Pioneer Hall. In any case arrival at least 30 minutes ahead of time to be at the location to ensure you all get on the ride you wish. I always get to places much earlier then expected as I don’t want to have a disappointment in not making it on time. If you arrive early there is also a nice playground for the kids, a trading post to explore for some souvenirs, and the beautiful Disney stables where the many horses are kept that you see in the parks. You are welcome to venture inside to say hello.
The wagon ride departure location is right across from Pioneer Hall. You will see the sign and the area clearly. It is to the right of the DVC kiosk. Bathrooms and Guest Service windows are across from the area as well.
I could not get a clear answer on payment. Most said cash and room charge only. To be safe put your gift card on your room account as they are not equipped to process credit cards etc. on the spot.
Your driver will be an awesome cast member who will tell you about your horses, Disney history, and everything about the Fort Wilderness Resort. You will surely enjoy seeing what camping is all about at Disney!
