Hello, can you tell me what would be the benefit of purchasing the Disney trip insurance? We've never purchased it before, but this time, we are traveling with our two year old. Thanks.

    Hi Stephanie!

My mother always said,"It's better to have something and not need it, than to need it and not have it."A Walt Disney World vacation  is an investment, costing upwards of thousands of dollars and while you may not need it,it's better to have it just in case.

Travel insurance can cover those unforeseen circumstances such as illness, trip delay interruption cancellations, lost baggage, and even rental car coverage. The biggest reason that many guests, myself included, purchase travel insurance is to cover any possible trip cancellations or delays for various reasons. When purchasing a Walt Disney World vacation package, you can make any cancellations or changes up to 45 days before your date of arrival without incurring any penalty costs.  Any changes that result in a lowering your overall cost will incur a $50 fee and any cancellations that are made between 44 to 2 days before you arrival will result in loss of your $200 deposit.Any cancellations made a day prior to your date of arrival or no-shows will forfeit the entire cost of the vacation.

Travel insurance also will help cover emergency medical treatment that may become necessary while on vacation. This is where I want to point out that typically preexisting conditions are not covered, but there are a few exceptions. This is also where trip interruption or delay can come in handy as trip insurance can help cover the cost of lodging, meals, and other expenses you might occur due to a covered illness or delay in trip.

Ask yourself,"Can my family absorb any costs from unforeseen circumstances that might happen during our vacation,"if the answer is no you may seriously want to consider purchasing a policy to protect your investment. Also, keep in mind that there are many companies out there that offer travel insurance at budget friendly prices.

I hope this helps, Stephanie and please visit me again if you have anymore questions!

    Best Wishes!
