Can you tell me which attraction queues are outdoors in each of the Walt Disney World Resort theme parks? I'd like to know which ones to prioritize for Genie + selections so we're minimizing our time in the heat this summer. Thank you!

Hi there, Emily, and welcome back to planDisney!

As a native Floridian, you’d think I’m used to the heat. But I try my best to avoid it–even at the Most Magical Place on Earth. Emily, I am more than happy to share some tips with you, so you can make the most of your summer vacation.

Before I get too deep into which attraction queues are outdoors, I want to say that with Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lanes, you’ll find that you won’t be in the outdoor portions of attractions for as long as you would have in the standby queue. So, this should definitely help you settle on your top picks.

The following list may not be fully comprehensive, and some of the attractions' queues are not entirely outdoors. Along with the handy, dandy maps in the My Disney Experience app, you will have everything you need:

    Magic Kingdom Park
    TRON Lightcycle / Run
    Seven Dwarves Mine Train
    Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
    Tomorrowland Speedway
    Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin
    Astro Orbiter
    Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
    The Barnstormer
    Dumbo the Flying Elephant
    Magic Carpets of Aladdin
    Prince Charming Regal Carrousel

    Spaceship Earth
    Frozen Ever After
    Remy's Ratatouille Adventure
    Test Track

    Disney’s Hollywood Studios
The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
Rock 'n' Roller Coaster starring Aerosmith
    Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
    Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway
All three Toy Story Land attractions

    Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
Almost every attraction at this theme park has an outdoor component except for meeting Mickey and Minnie Mouse at Adventurer's Outpost and the artsy, indoor Animation Experience at Conservation Station

AN EXTRA GEM: I recommend that you keep your party hydrated by bringing your own water bottles to the theme parks. You will easily find free water refill stations throughout the day. Also, sometimes it gets so hot, that you’ll catch me with a huge umbrella as a portable form of shade. If an umbrella is not your style, don’t forget a hat. And be sure to include an indoor show, like Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room, or a table-service restaurant on your itinerary for a nice, air-conditioned midday break.

Emily, I hope that you have an amazing vacation! Eek–it’s almost here! If you have any other questions, feel free to revisit us here at planDisney.

    Magic always,
